I spend most of the day on poker-related things. But I could really use a nickanme, and my mates don’t play poker so I can’t refer to them. Which is where you come in…
- My poker face is just a constant scowl that gets bigger as a stack gets lower
-I’m young and haven’t been playing poker for long
-I spend alot of time on poker and know a lot of tactics and jargon
-I think it’s good to get dressed up for the table with a suit, jewellery etc.
-My poker style is fairly laid back but I know when a pot’s worth playing for, even if I can bluff it.
-My favourite thing in poker is getting the nut and slow playing and then watching other players putting all-in and getting busted

Two poker math questions?

dunhate235 asked:

You are getting 2-1 when you are need to 3-1 to call. Lets say someone bet 20 into 20 and you need 3-1. Is there some super fast way to calculate this?????

#2- You have ten high and you just know its no good (yes im that good). However, you feel like bluffing. You bet 50 into 50. Would you have to win 33% of the time for this to be proftable if you asssume your hand has no showdown value whatsoever?
For question one , i want you to know is there a super fast way to calculate how much i need to earn in the future for it to be a profitable call.
“but it isn’t, it’s about what you think your opponent has and how much you can earn from him based on how much you think he will pay you off for if you hit your hand, which also takes into account your opponent’s skill and reading ability”

Im not asking how you determine how much you think you can get off your oppenent. This is obviously very read and player dependent. What im asking is how much more money you need to extract in the next streets for the call to be profitable.
For example, in the example i gave, you need to get 40 more on the next two streets to make this a profitable call if you are currently getting 2-1, but your draw is 3-1 of making by the turn.
Sabes.. could you tell me how many times your bluff has to be sucessful when you bet half the pot (3-1).
How about when you bet 3/4 pot?

Tough Poker Riddle(Texas Hold’em)?

fezz349 asked:

This is a question about limping in on the small blind.

In some cases, it feels right to limp with any crappy starting hand, such as 72 off-suit, when X players have limped before me. Let’s assume that the BB is passive and seldom raises in cases such as this one.

About how many players need to have limped before you in order for you to limp with a crappy hand from the small blind? (In other words: what value is X?)

As this question differs a lot by how the players are, we need to set up a model. Assume that everyone has a dep stack, that half are tight, straight-forward players, and that the other half are tight, optimistic ones. There are plenty of bluffs and tricky/weirdy plays. Also assume that the big blind will never raise, to make the math easier.

Poker, any tips on how to beat a wild game?

David L asked:

I have a weekly poker game that I go to and the play is mostly very wild in nature. People just play any 2 cards and then either bluff or get lucky and hit some crazy hand.

Are there any specific places on line or perhaps books I can read to learn how to deal with this?

Does skill matter at a poker table when everyone else is a donkey?

I attended “casino night” for my wife’s college the other day, and wound up playing poker. NLHE, blinds 1/2. The strange thing is that NOBODY at the table knew what they were doing. Two of the girls even asked for the card that ranks the hands! Consequently I saw some truly ridiculous plays. One girl had the stone nuts and checked it down. She hit her flush on the turn and didn’t do a thing with it. Another girl had aces full and was really unsure whether to call a min bet on the river! Meanwhile people were calling with absolute rags, and generally turning the game into a slot machine. I busted out when I flopped the nuts, went all in, and had some girl call me who needed runner runner (which she hit). I’ve heard and seen that you can’t bluff a bad player. But when all 8 or 9 of your opponents barely know the game is there any skill involved at all? Or can you only sit back, wait for a monster, and hope you don’t get drawn out on?

Why do some people think that if Roger Clemens sues it will prove his innocence?

englandblueskies asked:

Are fans that blind?

First argument: Marion Jones example

Marion Jones filed a $25 million lawsuit against Victor Conte—the founder of BALCO—for defamation of character. Jones would later plead guilty to lying to federal agents about taking banned substances.

Second argument: Poker analogy

Does using intimidation convince fans that you never took performance-enhancing drugs? In poker, you can bluff all you want, but it does not mean anything if your opponent calls and you have the lower hand. This may be the same in the case against Roger Clemens. You can sue all you want, but if there is some reliable evidence out there against you, it does no good to sue.

They’ll yell “straw man!” when clearly a straw man fallacy wasn’t committed.

Has calling out argument fallacies become like poker? Bluff and hope whoever you’re debating with is a bigger dips*** than you are?

Am I the only one seeing the bluffing fallacy committed a lot lately?

No Limit Cash Games are about making money not about acquiring chips (see tournament strategy)

Recap: Yukon holding 2s-4s pushes “ALL-IN” vs. Phi Ivey’s Pocket Kings on a 3d-7s-6d FLOP. Obviously Brad was trying to make a “play”. Betting 300k to win a 50k pot is just bad poker. He bought in for over a 1 million and was just pushing his stack around. Of course Ivey folded (the good play) Though I respect Brad’s game, this was probably the most bone-headed play EVER. People calling this one of the “Best Bluffs” are simply bad poker players.

I’m sure you guys have play in lower NO LIMIT games, where some guy sits with an obscene about and just tries to railroad the entire game. Its not poker, its just bored rich guy.
