dagodagodoo asked:

I’m not claiming to be Phil Ivey, or even a pro by any standard, but I can not win in the real money games on Fulltilt.com.

I flop top pair….they make trips.

I flop trips….they river a straight

I bluff at a pot….they call with low pair

I pre-raise with AK….I get called…..and AK never comes. Ever.

I have played poker for almost 30 years. I win a fair amount in live games and am usually am in the top 5 in my weekly poker league.

Someone give me some insight. Please!!!!!

BTW… I am not a quitter so please don’t suggest that unless you feel online poker is not on the up and up. I would quit once I figure out how to win :)
Thanks!!!!

If you call a bluff in poker, do you have to show your cards if your opponent does not?

I see players who are called just tap the table and not show their bluffing hand. You can learn a lot from your opponents bluffing strategies. If they do not show, do I need to show? Is it bad sportsmanship to insist they show their bluff?

I need to do an essay about comical strategies on Friends. I’ve check some of the scripts and I don’t know what strategy these are called

1) Chandler: Yeah, we just don’t happen to know any woman in our games.
Monica: Oh, please, that is such a lame excuse!
Ross: Excuse me, do any of you know how to play?
Girls: No

2) Aunt Iris: I will hit him with my car
Monica: What?
Rachel: Oh my god
Monica: Really?
Aunt Iris: No! That’s bluffing. Lemme tell you something, everything you hear at a poker game is pure crap (to Phoebe) nice earing. (there are 2 here, one is the No! and one is the earrings)

And if you have any other ones please tell me. I need to finish the essay in like 7 hours time. Thanx
and another one too
(Rachel playing poker against Ross)
Rachel: see ur 25 and uh, Monica, get my purse
Monica: Rachel, there’s nothing in it
Rachel: OK, then get me your purse

Question for Poker players?

Wild Child asked:

So I’m playing a friendly home game of no limit texas hold ‘em with the blinds at $1 and $2 with 6 players. I’m on the button and make the call with 9 10 suited, small blind folds and big blind checks so there’s 5 players in the pot. Flop comes 10 10 10. The nuts! 1st player bets $4 and everybody calls so I smooth call hoping somebody hits their full boat on the turn. The turn is an 8. 1st player bets another $4 and everybody calls again. They’re building the pot for me so I’m thinking if I raise that’s just going to be a red flag so I smooth call again. A 7 opens on the river and the 1st player checks and everybody checked as well.

Now.. is it correct to make a value bet so the person holding the 7 or 8 raises or do I over bet the pot to make it seem like I’m bluffing and want everybody to fold? The pot is now at $51 if you weren’t counting.

I made a $10 value bet and one person called. Should I have over bet? The reasoning I used was I didn’t over bet because these are not professional poker players and would automatically think I’d over bet because I have the nuts and not because I’m bluffing at the pot.

i only see the flop about 20-30% of the time, dont call unless i hav the pot odds, dont bluff much, basically fold a loser and bet a winner.
i only lose when i have all my chips in with the BEST hand, and some lucky punk hits a 3 outer. should i play higher stakes (to improve the competition to players who wouldnt call 3 outers???) or just keep playing the same and put it down to a bad run. i play internet $5 or £10 tourneys and have won several multi table (300+ players) tourneys. been playin about 3 years. thanks

In poker, are suited connectors good or bad?

da_hal asked:

I’m reading some of the information from pokertips.org, and the information about suited connectors is contradictory. In the same article, it says that suited connectors are the 2nd strongest hand to get other than pocket pairs, but in the same article, it critisizes KQ suited, QJ suited and J10 suited as weak. So which is it? (”good” meaning you can bet into it pre-flop, “bad” meaning only for bluffing or check-folding.)
k, i read through the article more and it explained that the number of players increases the value of suited connectors.

EXPERT NO LIMIT TEXAS HOLD EM POKER PLAYERS ONLY! Question on multiple level thinking?

kay6090 asked:

Okay, so, I’m a very good player, but, I’m confused about exactly how deep I should be thinking against other good plyers (expert or professional level). For example, heads up, I have 67s or a similar hand, limp on the button, opponant checks, then the flop comes paired, with low cards, such as 228. No straight or flush possibilities, and, of course I have nothing, so I could make a stab and then give up on the pot, but, with a paired board, especially with low cards, strategy would advise a bluff since there is so little chance your opponant has a hand, but the problem is that my opponant knows this, and I know he knows this, and HE knows I know he knows this, etc. So, I guess what I’m asking is exactly how deep do the very best players (phil ivey, durrr, etc.) think about these sort of situations….generally. Do they make the “book move”, or do they make the opposite of the book move because they know you’d expect it, or do they make the book move because they’d know you’d expect the opposite of the book move, etc., etc. etc. ???
OH, and I know you’re only supposed to think one level above your opponant, but how often do you do this, and how are you supposed to recognize what level they’re thinking on?

United We Fall asked:

I play for play money most of the time, but I’m thinking about playing for money now, because I score around 100,000,000 points per, 5/10 nl game. I live in the USA so I was wondering if I could still bet money on the game and if people tend to bluff more or less in the money games.
