I made it to the final 20 players in a tourney to win a seat into the WSOP. This guy had been stealing blinds left and right, he reraised preflop… (heres where i made my mistake) instead of just calling or reraising what i thought was a bluff i moved all in… and he called me.

I had A 8 and he called with 6 6…. the flop came up A 2 3 rainbow and boy was i relieved. I WOULD have been 2nd in chip and a shoe in to win a seat BUT he hit runner runner. The turn was a 4 and the river was a 5….

what are the odds that he could have won that hand?….he had 2 outs to hit a 6 and by the rule of four…. 4 times 2 outs tells me he had a 8% chance of beating me by making a set. but that doesn’t take into account the chances that he could have hit runner runnner which gave him 8 more outs but he would have had to hit two of them in a row….

so what were the odds?
side rant: im so pissed i played excellent poker like a pro all night and my one mistake cost me a seat in to the WSOP…..i frickin had a 91% win rate in showdowns and in other wins…… won 9 out 10 showdowns and like 24 out of 26 other wins….i know i should have just called or raised and then pushed hard at the flop but

i mean seriously what kind of a donk calls an all in raise with a 6 6? frickin Phil Gordon even says that playing hands like that for all ur chips is suicide,,,, i was playing aggressive tight and if he was ne kind of player he would have realized this and thought i had a monster hand and he still called…. fortunately right after the idiot immediately donked his chips away and lost but he knocked me out in the process…..
you didnt see him play i did he was a donk he immediately lost all of his and my chips afterwards on donk hands

I mean christ, No limit is the whole appeal of Texas Hold’em. You can;t have 2 poeple with 10,000 chips each bettign 2/4/8/12 and actually bluff or bully or anything! It subtracts all the entertaining strategy right out of the game!

It seems to be a very common phenomenon which clears up after a few months of regular playing. But why does it occur at all? Why when winning (as opposed to when bluffing, etc.)? Why does it stop after a few months?

heres my dilemma… i play in no limit poker tournaments everyday and i can usually always get a massive amount of chips….but then my bad luck sets in and i suffer one horrible beat after another.

ive tried sitting out, playing super tight, bluffing and mixing it up but i always get knocked out. when the tournament has hundreds i can almost always place in the top 50, when the tournament has thousands i can almost always place in the top 200.

ive been playing at least two tournaments a day for over a year ….im 22 been playing since 17 and ive only won a few tourneys and never first place…

any tips?specific tips on how to play a large stack would be nice…perhaps a link to some poker pro tips….thanx.

POKER: Always up, then lose. WHY?

Bob asked:

LOL ok “always” is a bit much. Last night was the 3rd game in my life I have played. I played Texas Holdem with 5 other guys. Anyway, I am still learning but the past couple games I was up at the star and before I knew it, all my chips were gone and I didnt even notice.

Should I fold more at the start unless I get similar suits, or really high cards like Ace and King? If I get a 3 and 7, different suits for example at the start, should I always fold that?

Also I have no guts LOL! I am scared to bluff, not so much cuz of the money but cuz I want to keep playing and having fun. Yet a couple guys seem to always bet big.

I lost $50 and feel guilty, like I threw away money but I had a good time. Should I feel bad?

I’ve been playing poker for a while now, but only recently, playing with a couple of my friends( all from different part of the world) I have had a different opinion of the game. I could tell who was a bluffer, who was a spender, who was conservative, and who was born to be poor, who would take bribes in exchange of favors, and who would colaborate with the leader on the table. I’ve started analyzing who made alliance with who, based on the countries they were from, and in most case, it all made sense. Although I was the second player with the most chips, I still lost by intimidation. The way the table was set (round , looking like the world), it seems like the leader owned the world (with his chips taking 3/8 of the whole table. I also have to say that the leader of the table come from a rich country and is used to money
